Rajoy turns down King’s invitation to form a new Spanish government
MARIANO Rajoy has refused King Felipe’s invitation to form a new government.
The PP leader quit after it became clear he wouldn’t receive the backing from the other main parties to form a coalition.
Socialist PSOE leader Pedro Sanchez will now have the opportunity to form a coalition of other left-wing parties.
He has to win a vote of confidence in Congress to do so.
On Friday, Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias said he was willing to form a coalition with the PSOE and the United Left (IU).
